Markus Lupfer exhibition

Fashion Week can be either inspiring fun or stiff obligation. In Berlin it's mostly the latter these days - reprimanded by security (don't stand here, step back, stand in line, wait outside), bored by too many bland celebrities flooding the shows and too many strawberry-pepper flavoured water promoting girls in humiliating ballet dresses.
What a nice break in that mess it was to visit the Markus Lupfer exhibition. Not entirely because of the presented fashion, but because of the relaxed atmosphere in the old palais with some champagne, friends, piano music and spring rolls.

Kaviar Gauche

Berlin based Kaviar Gauche used their first Berlin show to show off what they can sell do best: bags. Would have been nice to see their dresses, from my seat at 5th row (buhu) the bags were invisible. I am not a bag-person anyway.

this is for you
This is for you, my lovely readers. For all of you, who are currently in Berlin, but without an invite for the Sisi Wasabi show, I offer you a hard to resist, last minute chance:
You get the chance to be part of the Sisi Wasabi show at the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week 2009 in Berlin. Designer Zerlina von dem Bussche will present her fall/ winter collection this Friday (today!), January 30, at 5 pm.
At the hotspot, you’ll also find the limited Coke light alu-bottle designed by Zac Posen. The glamorous pink and gold polka-dot design of the desired collector’s item let us reminisce about Zac Posen’s fashion debut one year ago at the Bebelplatz.
Coca-Cola light invites you to join the spectacular fashion event. Simply email your name to pudri.blog@gmail.com until 15:00. Eventually you’ll be one of the lucky ones who receive two exclusive invitations.
EDIT / 15:15: Amandine is lucky and will see as one of the firsts what Sisi Wasabi is offering for winter 09! Have fun!

hello, i'm a blogger

I am just returned from the German (+1 San Francisco(nia?) bloggers meet&greet at Rodeo and my stomach is a large pile of cheese, as we had cheese fondue with some wine and such - which is why I am falling to bed right now. You can take a look at some beautiful German bloggers on my Flickr.

what to wear...

...when you struggle through end time jungles

...when you fight in the upcoming ice age

...when you are eloquent at the next intergalactic conference (though you're wearing a squid on your head)

Seems like designers (here: Gareth Pugh) are carried away by the fear mongering surrounding the climatic change, terrorism and financial crisis and designed the outfits to survive the upcoming catastrophe.

ugly consumerism

I went West today, and look what i found: an ugly mall, in German: Einkaufszentrum, abbreviated to EKZ - please draw your own conclusions.
Ps: tested what B/W would do to these pictures and yes, they gain aestethic quality but fall short to transport the brutal effect of 80ies vandalism.

what to wear...

...when you cut someone into pieces

...when you rob an armored car

...when you fleece a widow without her noticing or regreting

...when you fit someone for concrete shoes

...when you flee of the police into the canalization

...when you want to look fitter than you are at the next brawl

...when you want to win the next fight just because of your outfit

...when looking good in crime is just not appropriate

Gespenster

Since my movie-friend looked at me with that kind of surprise that says, "where did you live the last years?", as I admitted that Jerichow was my first experience of a Christian Petzold movie, I had to eliminate that and started with his third big movie, Gespenster (ghosts) yesterday.
In my humble opinion, the movie is a very German one, although I am not quite able to describe what that would mean - maybe taken back dialogues (the most is not articulated, rather than articulated), absent explanations and answers, plain mimics and restrained action - is that German? At least it's something I associate with German cinema.
It's difficult to sum the story up, since it would not even come close to what the movie is or wants to be - the camera work by Hans Fromm is as beautiful and supporting as in Jerichow, the actors Julia Hummer and Sabine Timoteo are a perfect match and the overall mood is absorbing.
Next one to watch will be Der freie Wille by Matthias Glasner, staring Sabine Timoteo.

jerichow

Saw "Jerichow", Christian Petzold's latest movie, last friday and finally and for the first time liked Nina Hoss' dull (or reduced) way of acting, that drove me mad in "Das Herz ist ein dunkler Wald" (and all the others I saw with her). Maybe it's the very convincing camera work by Hans Fromm? I loved the landscape shots of beautiful, deserted northeastern Germany - reminding me of my days in Brandenburg.
