I wrote a short text on blogging for the Berlin Fashion Week Magazine, which you can download here.

When I first got the idea to create a Berlin street style blog in March 2006, I happened
to be taking a study break with a cup of filtered coffee in my hand, sitting on one of
the cushions at the Staatsbibliothek. A few days later, we published the first pictures of
well-dressed passers-by on “Stil in Berlin”.
18 months after that, I drank the champagne at the Paris Ritz a bit too quickly on my
empty stomach, since we were supposed to continue on to a private tour of the Chanel
headquarters at Rue Cambon 31 where Jacques Helleu, Creative Director of Chanel,
had invited 13 international bloggers. This first big positive reception was even worth a
piece for the New York Times and soon after, Colette exhibited the first “Stil in Berlin”
photos. In November 2008, a girlfriend yelled to me over the telephone: “Claus Kleber
just said your name!” He even pronounced it correctly when he presented the piece about
me and my blog on the ZDF heute journal.
I’ve been blogging for four years and so belong to a new species that is ridiculed as much
as it is over-hyped. Fashion bloggers are those who, without a traditional education or
long internship, took the shortcut from the home desk directly to the front row. Out of
pure passion and unbridled enthusiasm, they worked hard for respect and reputation.
And because their readers love them, the industry cannot ignore them.
Blogging is at best free and innovative, it opens doors and new perspectives, transcends
social and professional boundaries, entertains, informs and surprises, is intense and
critical. And the greatest is that this new way of publishing complements the fashion
circus with a very exciting voice.
