Supported by this year's Theatertreffen I made a series of portraits of theater people in their homes. This is the director Andreas Kriegenburg, whose piece "Diebe" has its Theatertreffen premiere tonight, in his home in Prenzlauer Berg. The pictures will be published daily on the Theatertreffen Blog.
I was very honoured that many people agreed on being pictured by me, a person they mostly never met before, in their homes. I consider this a pretty intimate situation and am always trying to be very careful and respectful when entering their private space. It's very interesting to see how people live and how they present themselfs to the camera. Especially with actors I made the experience, that, despite all the vanity, they get pretty insecure when I ask them to just sit and look at me, just being themselfs without playing a certain role. So I am taking my time, while talking about this and that, I am taking photos I won't use anyway, to finally, at the end of the session, ask them to look at me/the camera silently. Mostly this last shot is the one I was aiming for.
