reality studio: cosmic camouflage

Reality Studio A/W 2010

I found my way to Svenja Specht's Reality Studio presentation on the last day of fashion week and I must say I am pretty happy I did. She collaborated with the painter Michael Kalki, who created a print for her and later transformed this print into a painting. And though her presentation this season was rather simple, in comparison to last years patchworked fabric pictures (which I obviously did not blog about, I do not understand why...), it did not lack in effect. The print is beautifully colored and such a great relief to all those dark, moody and shady colors one normally encounters in a winter collection. I can not wait to see wether I can pull it of or not, Svenja made some delicate blouses and dresses, and of course she has developed some nice continuation versions of her range of scarfs.
For everyone living in London who had not yet had the possibility to get convinced by Svenja's talent, she will be part of Topshop's Edit project, that has a heavy Berlin focus this time, also featuring Starstyling and Boessert/Schorn.

There is not much left of this fabulous brocade like fabric and it sadly might not be part of the collection as it was shown at the presentation.

Sam Frenzel A/W 2010

Blogs need to be quick, quick, quick. I am not. I do post this today, though you might have seen it already on another gazillon of blogs - the winter collection of Sam Frenzel. I really liked his overwhelming approach, he surely did grap a big piece of the bling-bling cake (the huge jewelry and the bizarre headpiece!) without drifting into areas, where you might mistake the clothes for fetish aids. The pieces still maintained that refined and high-quality look due to their almost perfect finishing and fitting (something you find rather rarely with new designers).

Karaleev Joop

Timo Feldhaus and I thought video is the thing, as he puts it: no need to think, just tape. This is the first result - a video on Vladimir Karaleev and Joop.

kind of missed out

I went to Paris for a day to do an interview, that will be revealed soon. And though I wanted to take pictures I was too overwhelmed by the sun, the city, the people, the pain au chocolate at La Duree, not being in Berlin, walking stairs five times to get the shot right and so on, that I only captured it from above when flying home. If you find the Eiffel tower you get a ... point.

bloglove

I wrote a short text on blogging for the Berlin Fashion Week Magazine, which you can download here.

When I first got the idea to create a Berlin street style blog in March 2006, I happened
to be taking a study break with a cup of filtered coffee in my hand, sitting on one of
the cushions at the Staatsbibliothek. A few days later, we published the first pictures of
well-dressed passers-by on “Stil in Berlin”.
18 months after that, I drank the champagne at the Paris Ritz a bit too quickly on my
empty stomach, since we were supposed to continue on to a private tour of the Chanel
headquarters at Rue Cambon 31 where Jacques Helleu, Creative Director of Chanel,
had invited 13 international bloggers. This first big positive reception was even worth a
piece for the New York Times and soon after, Colette exhibited the first “Stil in Berlin”
photos. In November 2008, a girlfriend yelled to me over the telephone: “Claus Kleber
just said your name!” He even pronounced it correctly when he presented the piece about
me and my blog on the ZDF heute journal.
I’ve been blogging for four years and so belong to a new species that is ridiculed as much
as it is over-hyped. Fashion bloggers are those who, without a traditional education or
long internship, took the shortcut from the home desk directly to the front row. Out of
pure passion and unbridled enthusiasm, they worked hard for respect and reputation.
And because their readers love them, the industry cannot ignore them.
Blogging is at best free and innovative, it opens doors and new perspectives, transcends
social and professional boundaries, entertains, informs and surprises, is intense and
critical. And the greatest is that this new way of publishing complements the fashion
circus with a very exciting voice.

Same procedure

again

Although our initiative gained some attention this season, the disposal of perfectly fine christmas trees started alarmingly early this year.
